Nelore breed and its crosses

Nelore is a pure Bos Indicus breed, which is very well adapted in Brazilian conditions (tropical climate). Brazilian cattle herd is about 200 million cattle and 80% of the herd is Nelore or Nelore influence. With the genetic improvement programs used massively in Brazilian herds, Nelore breed has improved a lot the production efficiency both pasture based or in feedlot.

 

Nelore crosses is a mix of breeds with presence of Bos Indicus blood (usually Nelore breed), and Bos Taurus blood on different percentages. The animals are very well adapted in tropical conditions, and they combine characteristics of heat tolerance, docile nature, and good meat production.

Angus and Hereford breeds

Angus and Hereford are British pure breeds and were introduced in South Brazil  more than 100 years ago and are specialized to produce high quality Beef in sub-tropical and temperate climates. From the crosses with Nelore were created the synthetic breeds Braford (75% Hereford, 25% Nelore) and Brangus (75% Angus, 25% Nelore) which can produce quality Beef in Tropical environments.

Holstein

Holstein is a top dairy breed indicated for specialized dairy systems. Such animals can easily reach 9,000 Kg of milk per lactation. Minerva can source different types of Holstein in Brazil, Uruguay and Chile which can suit for the specific operation requests.

Girolanda

Girolanda  is the Brazilian dairy breed, it´s an animal which has been developed to perform in tropical condition. It brings the rusticity of Bos indicus and potential of production from Holstein, these animals suit better on lower input based systems. Average production / lactation can reach 6,500 Kg.
